Exceptional miniature Jacobean carved walnut armchair, early 18th c., with a caned back and seat, with intricately carved crest and stretcher, retaining an early dry surface, 18 1/4" h. Illustrated in Schiffer Miniature Antique Furniture Cover, fig.37. The author notes This chair which combines vigor of design with refinement of execution may be the finest surviving Stuart miniature in existence.
