Melchoir Fordney, Lancaster, Pennsylvania full stock flintlock long rifle, approximately .50 caliber, the barrel flat stamped
M. Fordney, with incise carved bold tiger maple stock and ornate engraved four-piece brass patch box, buttplate and trigger guard, 44 1/2'' octagonal barrel. This fine example of the Golden Age of Kentucky Rifles was made by one of Lancaster County's premier gun makers and shows all the characteristics of this artist.
Condition
The signed barrel and HOL marked lock exhibit a pleasing brown patina and good fit to the stock. There is a repair at the second barrel pin on the left side and 7-8 cracks from the muzzle back. The lock is fully functional. A three inch section of wood surrounding the lock is replaced, as is a smaller section at the front of the lock. Lock was possibly reconverted to flintlock. Purchasers of firearms must comply with all state and federal regulations governing their purchase, registration and transportation.
