Massachusetts or New Hampshire Queen Anne maple highboy, ca. 1770, the upper section with two short and three long drawers resting on a base with one long and three short drawers, the center with fan carving, supported by cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, 66 1/2" h., 38 1/4" w. An early chalk inscription on the lower case reads
Do_k. Records indicate that a William Doak was working as a cabinetmaker in Boston towards the end of the 18th century. Provenance: Estate of Myra Godley, NJ.
Condition
Early/mid 20th c. surface. Brasses replaced. Lacking one bail. A couple lip repairs. Splines added to sides of upper case. One knee return replaced. A couple repairs to other knee returns.
