Massachusetts Federal mahogany bed, ca. 1800, the footposts with reeded baluster tops, above a flame birch panel with lunette inlay, 65 1/2" h., 73" w., 59 1/2" d. Illustrated in Stoneman John and Thomas Seymour, Cabinet Makers in Boston, figure 256. Sold by order of the trustees of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to benefit acquisition funds. Size: approx. 77 1/2" (foot to head inside measurement), approx. 54 1/4" (inside width side to side), rails are 1 1/2" wide. Birch headposts. Mahogany footposts (possibly associated). Side rails cut. Scratches along headboard, footboard and side panels. Some abrasions to reeding on the back post. Some loss to eagle's breast.
