Massachusetts Federal mahogany bed, ca. 1800, the footposts with reeded baluster tops, above a flame birch panel with lunette inlay, 65 1/2" h., 73" w., 59 1/2" d. Illustrated in Stoneman John and Thomas Seymour, Cabinet Makers in Boston, figure 256. Sold by order of the trustees of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to benefit acquisition funds.

Condition

Size: approx. 77 1/2" (foot to head inside measurement), approx. 54 1/4" (inside width side to side), rails are 1 1/2" wide. Birch headposts. Mahogany footposts (possibly associated). Side rails cut. Scratches along headboard, footboard and side panels. Some abrasions to reeding on the back post. Some loss to eagle's breast.
