Baltimore, Maryland silk on linen needlework sampler, ca. 1825, wrought by Sarah Ann Fell, with a bird perched atop a large foliate and floral trailing vine, centering verse with potted flowers below, 19" x 17". Sarah Ann Fell was born on November 15th, 1812 to Ezra and Ann (Speakman) Fell. Sarah never married and lived with her father in Baltimore until his death in 1852. She was at the Westtown School in 1827. Ezra owned property in Wilmington, Delaware where she lived after his death and was residing in the Quaker Hill section of Wilmington where she died in 1896.
