Large Pennsylvania sgraffito plate dated 1795, possibly by John Neis, with brown, green, and yellow decoration with a Hessian soldier on the left side, a tulip tree in the center and monkey and dog figures on the right, inscribed in border "Bastiahn Bucher 1795", 12 1/4" dia. Provenance: George Horace Lorimer, Parke-Bernet, March 1944, lot 453.
Knife marks. Broken and repaired. Considerable losses to glazing in the center.
