Highly important Lancaster, Pennsylvania pewter flagon, ca. 1770, bearing the touch of Johann Christoph Heyne, 11 1/4" h. Only two other examples in private hands are known. See Laughlin Pewter in America, figs. 786 and 790 and Herr Pewter in Pennsylvania Churches, figs. 164 and 165. Herr note: His splendid flagons, with their strongly Germanic elements of cherub's heat feet and body, combined with a cast hollow English handle, are remarkable examples of colonial assimilation of styles. Provenance: Cochran, Boonsboro, Maryland, September 20, 1997.
