Jonathan Harrington, Lexington Massachusetts Chippendale birch block front desk, late 18th c., the canted lid encasing a drawered and pigeon hole interior, the case with four graduated drawers over an apron with a shaped drop pendant, all resting on ogee feet, 41" h., 36" w. Jonathan Harrington was a fifer in Captain John Parker's Company of Minute Men and was the last survivor of the Battle of Lexington, d. 1854. Accompanying the lot is a 1928 notarized letter from Major Alfred Pierce certifying the desk was made by Jonathan Harrington, also with a copy of an auction catalog page featuring the desk.

Condition

Brasses replaced. One breadboard end of lid replaced. Missing three valances. Several valances not attached. Front feet ended out. Stable.
