John A. Landis(Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, ca. 1852-1853) - Spiral labyrinth "What is a gentleman?", hand-drawn watercolor and ink on laid paper, with central scalloped edge circle enclosing the labyrinth with interlacing script, surrounded by trailing vines, various flowers, leaves, birds, and heart inscribed "Made by John A. Landis in the year of our Lord 1852 in the Seventy Fifth year of his age", all within an intricate striped and swirl border, executed in shades of blue, green, red, and yellow, 12" x 16".
