James A. Garfield signed letter, Washington D. C., dated March 19th, 1869, addressed to Hon. William Stedman (General), referencing a meeting with General Grant and Sherman getting a councilship at Veracruz, taken the letter and papers to the Secretary of State (Hamilton Fish) and he would in turn take it to the President (Ulysses S. Grant) for an appointment, written on two pages, 8" x 5". Provenance: The Ephemera Collection of Joseph Rubinfine, Merritt Island, Florida.
