Jacob A. Light's monumental National Clock, Millersburg, Pennsylvania, completed in 1908, carved and painted with nineteen scenes and 380 figures, to include the parade of U.S. presidents from Washington through Coolidge, Civil war generals, Uncle Sam, the Last Supper, etc., 64" h., 114" w. This impressive folk art work is a culmination of eighteen years of craftsmanship with a pen knife representing Light's crowning achievement.

Condition

Parts: information/portfolio of signs. The clock was completed in 1908, but Jacob Light kept adding figures from 1908 through 1926 to the carousel of presidents according to a family history written by his son. These additional figures included William Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge. It was sold in the 1930's to a private person and that is when the carvings appear to have stopped. Surface abrasions. As expected wear and condition consistent with age and use. Sporadic missing pieces. Overall very good condition. Does not work. The clock is its own piece. No additional information or photographs available for this lot.
