Important War of 1812 painted military drum, labeled by Henry Fraley, Germantown and used by Henry Lightner "The drummer boy of Fort McHenry", retaining its original decoration of a large spread winged eagle with American shield body, below a banner inscribed 1st Compy. 1st Battln 2d Regiment, all on a blue ground, 17 1/4" h., 16 3/4" w. Accompanying this lot is a pencil and wash drawing of Lightner and his drum at the age of 83. Provenance: Collection of H. Richard Dietrich, Jr.

Condition

Excellent untouched condition. Old leather, gilt has 4.5" crack, top is a great example. Drum in drawing included with this lot is not the drum being sold.
