Important Ohio painted pine and poplar blanket chest, mid 19th c., the front initialed SC, over three blue panels with potted tulips, above three drawers all surrounded by geometric stencils, 30" h., 50" w. Two related chests are in the Ohio Historical Society and are illustrated in Fabian The Pennsylvania German Decorated Chest figs. 42 and 43. Provenance: Descended in the Calloway family to the present owner.
Wear to lid. Loss to side lid molding. Pulls replaced.
