Important Manhattan, New York stoneware jug, ca. 1805, impressed N. York Commeraws Stoneware Corlears Hook, with incised cobalt swags and tassels, 14 1/2" h. Thomas Commeraw was one of America's earliest African American potters and the present example is a particularly large and fine example of his work. Provenance: Crocker Farm, October 28, 2017, lot 44.

Condition

5'' hairline running from top handle attachment down right side. Two firing chips to spout. Another larger firing flaw to handle.
