SN #6645 - 2. Lt. Col. Elfwing was listed in the rolls of the 48th NY Infantry, as well as being listed as a Major, the 48th was attached to the 1st brigade of Gen. Sherman's force; embarked for Port Royal late in October, and was active in the capture of the fortifications of Port Royal ferry Jan. I, 1862; In June, 1863, the regiment, with the exception of Cos.
