Horstmann & Sons Civil War presentation foot officer's sword, inscribed on the quillon Thos. S. Hayes 1st Lt. 5th N. Y. V. V., with wire wrapped leather grip, pierced brass floral guard, faint remains of etching on blade, the scabbard with embossed brass bands with panoply of arms. Thomas S. Hayes was commissioned into H Co. in 1863, and was wounded in 1864 at St. Petersburg, VA., 30'' blade length.
Condition
Blade and scabbard have been polished, dent in scabbard about 8'' from drag.
