Exceptional Assiniboine, Ft. Belknap, Montana steatite and catlinite presentation peace pipe, given by August Moccasin, an elder statesman, to Dr. Felix Cohen on June 16th, 1935, the stem pierced and adorned with three turtles in a red, yellow, and green painted surface, the bowl with pewter inlay of geometric designs, overall - 31'' l. Accompanying this lot are photo copies of photographs of Dr. Cohen holding the pipe as well as a copy of a letter written to his wife talking about the pipe. After Dr. Cohen's death in 1953 it was on display at the Department of Interior.
