Exceptional and rare Philadelphia Federal satinwood veneered mahogany games table, ca. 1795, the dramatically serpentine top with a line inlaid edge overhanging a conforming skirt with highly figured veneers inlaid with astragals, all resting on delicate square tapering legs with upper inlaid panels above tapering bellflowers within line inlaid edges and terminating in banded cuffs, 30" x 36 1/4'. A nearly identical, but less developed example, was sold at Sotheby's, October 2000, lot #244, where it was described This card table is a superlative expression of the Philadelphia style.
