English silk on linen sampler dated 1843, wrought by Emma Whitehouse at Mrs. Hornes Seminary, with central verse surrounded by landscape vignettes with figures, 20 1/2" x 24 1/2". Provenance: The Estate of Anne Brossman Sweigart, Ephrata, PA.
Old frame, but not necessarily original (redone, new backing). 1/8" hole to top margin, 3" from top right corner. 3/8" hole to right margin, 1 1/2" from top right corner. 2nd word 'h' missing right leg. 4th word 'g' missing ring.
