Elaborate carved and painted creche or Nativity scene made by Carl Gerum of Allentown, Pennsylvania, ca. 1935, tallest - 12'' h. Mr. Gerum purportedly carved each figure over the course of ten to fifteen years, sending each one to his sister Anna in Germany for clothing and accessories. Provenance: purchased by Dr. Robert Schaeffer, ca. 1950 and later donated to a Pennsylvania Museum. Minor repairs and losses.
