Early Pennsylvania German silk on linen sampler, dated 1750, initialed LB, probably for Lisbet Bear (ca. 1732-1771) of East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, 16" x 6 3/4". Illustrated in Clarke Hess Mennonite Arts, fig. 255, where it is noted as being the second earliest Pennsylvania German sampler known. Provenance: Charles Stauffer sale, Conestoga Auctions, May 1998, Lime Spring Farm.
