Dickens, Charles, A Christmas Carol. In Prose; Being a Ghost Story of Christmas, illustrated by John Leech, first edition, copyright 1843, published London Chapman & Hall, 186 Strand, with brown embossed cover and gilt pages and four hand colored plates, in an early 20th c. red Moroccan leather case, titled and decorated in gilt, with a watered silk liner.

Condition

Blue and red ink shown on title page, blue ink on half title page, green end pages, and uncorrected "Stave I" Marley's ghost ... (page 1) as first chapter heading. Both endpapers (front and back) have very minor gutter starting on front and rear. Text lock is tight. There is writing on one of the front end papers but it is illegible. Very minor staining. Some toning to pages. A couple of dog eared pages. Gilt still present on pages. No apparent restoration. Text block is firm and secure. Very minor rubs on top edges. Provenance: old Philadelphia collection.
