Connecticut joined oak blanket chest, late 17th c., carved facade with applied ebonized half columns, 30 1/4'' h., 48'' w. Provenance: Maryland collection.
Lid appears to be original yellow pine lid with some alterations. 3/4" strip added along hinge edge. Hinges replaced, but original holes for cotter pins line up. 1/2" round molded edge replaced. Patch to front edge above lock. Knobs replaced. Drawer runners replaced. Several structural braces added. Yellow pine drawer bottom. Applied 1/2 columns replaced.
