Christian Beschler "Sussel Unicorn Artist" (Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, ca. 1800), ink and watercolor fraktur for Magdalena Fuchs, b. 1801, 13" x 16". Beschler was originally dubbed the Sussel Unicorn Artist after the landmark Arthur Sussel sale at Parke-Bernet Galleries in 1958. His identity remained unknown until relatively recently when a collaboration between Drs. Don Yoder and Don Herr finally uncovered the artist's name. This discovery and a discussion of the only ten known works by Beschler are discussed in Antiques and Fine Art, Spring 2009.
