Chippendale maple two-part chest on chest, attributed to the workshop of Moses Hazen, Weare, New Hampshire, ca. 1800, the upper section with a broken scroll pediment centering on a turned finial, above a protruding scalloped tympanum, above a three-panel drawer with a central fan and three long drawers flanked by blocked stiles, resting on a four-drawer base with fan drop and short ogee legs ending in ball and claw feet, retaining a superb original red stained surface and brass pulls, 83" h., 39" w., 20" d. A similar maple chest on chests, attributed to Hazen was sold at Christie's, January 1994, lot 245.
Condition
Proper left front foot returns replaced. Repair break to divider of upper drawer. Losses and repair to top lip of bottom drawer. Two other drawers with small chips to corners. Original finial and brasses. Overall excellent untouched condition.
