Chippendale mahogany secretary, Maryland, late 18th c., with an elaborate fretwork and inlaid broken arch, above glazed doors, resting on a fall front base, 99" h., 41 1/4" w. A linen press with very similar fretwork and star inlays, bearing the label of John Shaw is illustrated in Cabinet Makers of Annapolis, by Elder and Bartlett. Provenance: The Collection of Mr. & Mrs. George P. Bissell, Jr.

Condition

Parts: letter and invoice for restoration from Kinlock Woodworking LTD dated February 27, 1996. Description should read Maryland (not probably Baltimore). Phoenix replaced. Upper section wired. Repaired breaks to fretwork. A couple cracks to glass. Brasses replaced. A couple repaired breaks to foot facings.
