Chippendale mahogany library chair, 18th/19th c., of typical Irish form with a serpentine crest, acanthus and rosette carved arm supports above a carved seat rail supported by cabriole legs with exuberantly carved knees and terminating in ball and claw feet. The chair is unusual in that all secondary wood is maple and the rear seat rail bears a label of Thomas Burling that was probably added at a later date. Provenance: A New Jersey estate.
Possibly American. Hard maple secondaries. Repaired breaks to feet.
