Philadelphia Chippendale carved mahogany dressing table, ca. 1760, the notched corner top overhanging a case with elaborately carved shell drawer, apron, and knees terminating in ball and claw feet, 28 3/4" h., 34 1/4" w. A related table is illustrated in Luke Vincent Lockwood, {Colonial Furniture in America}, fig. 252. Alan Miller aptly nicknamed this unknown carver the "cornucopia carver" after the carved elements on the skirt. Few examples by this early and skilled carver are known. Alan Miller assisted with the cataloging of this piece.
