Chester County, Pennsylvania Queen Anne walnut secretary desk, ca. 1760, signed by Joseph Allen, the upper section with a bonnet top, flame finials, and a frieze with applied shell, above two arched raised panel doors, concealing a fitted interior with small drawers, above two candle slides, resting on a lower section with a slant lid, enclosing an ornately fitted interior, with a shell carved prospect door flanked by fluted and flame carved document drawers and small serpentine drawers, above a case with one long drawer above two short drawers and two long drawers, all supported by ogee bracket feet, 99'' h., 39'' w. Provenance: Private New York collection.

Condition

Brasses, feet, and finials replaced. Hinges and lock on door replaced. Bottom drawer discolored. Backboards of upper section replaced. Top and bottom possibly associated.
