Rare Charles II silk embroidered casket, ca. 1670, depicting royalist allegorical scenes, the front with a king and queen and castles, caterpillars, and butterflies, beneath royal symbols deer, lion, and unicorn; the back with allegorical figures of Peace and Plenty and a bounty of fruits, beneath a scene of a hound chasing a hare; the top and sides decorated with elegant ladies, with one playing a lute, surrounded by exotic birds, Tudor roses, and French lilies; retaining its original ebonized pine case, 11 1/2" h., 11 3/4" w.
