Carved and painted model of the steam yacht Philadelphia with a plaque inscribed Presented to John H. Starin of New York by Neafie & Levy Penn Works Philada 1875, case - 22 1/2'' h., 48 1/4'' w. Neafie & Levy was a Philadelphia shipbuilding firm started in the middle of the 19th century and operating until 1908. They were best known for building the U.S. Navy's first submarine, the USS Alligator, in 1862, as well as the first destroyer, the USS Bainbridge in 1902.
