Carved and gilded 3/4 eagle plaque, late 19th c., attributed to John Haley Bellamy, Kittery, Maine, the eagle standing atop a rocky plinth, retaining its original surface, 9 1/2" x 13". A letter from Bellamy expert, James Craig, accompanies this lot and discusses the similarities the present eagle has with one of Bellamy's earliest works, his"Hawk-on-a-Spar" carved in 1868. He notes that it is possible that this eagle was carved by Bellamy's father or brother. Condition
