Cabinet Card photograph of Chang and Eng Bunker, the original Siamese Twins, photo by J H Blakemore, Mt Airy, NC, 6 1/2" x 4 1/4". Chang and Eng were born in 1811 in Siam and were brought to America in 1829 to tour the world in "freak shows". They became very well known and were two of the most studied humans in the world at the time. After three years of touring they left their managers and continued to tour on their own, making a small fortune, and retired by 1839. They settled near Mount Airy, North Carolina, became US citizens, bought slaves, married two local sisters, and fathered 21 children.
