Boston silk and paint on silk needlework embroidery, ca. 1805, attributed to Mrs. Rowson's Academy, titled "Landing of Columbus", the original reverse painted mat with title and name, "Jane Seely". This work belongs to a small group of needleworks done after the print "The Landing of Christopher Columbus", engraved by David Edwin, 1776-1841, after a painting by Edward Savage, pub. 1800, 24 1/2" x 18 1/2". This work is nearly identical to one illustrated in Antiques, Aug. 1976, 293-294 by Rowson student Margaret Mitchell, and another inscribed ""wrought by Miss Abbey Low, at Mrs. Rowson's Academy", illustrated in Antiques, Oct. 1992, 421. A similar example is illustrated in Girlhood Embroidery by Betty Ring, vol. I, pl. 95.
