Bobby Seale was one of the original "Chicago Eight" defendants charged after the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, with conspiracy and inciting to riot. Seale was a last minute replacement for Eldridge Cleaver and had been in Chicago for only two days of the convention. On October 29, 1969 Judge Julius Hoffman ordered Bobby Seale bound and gagged after an outburst in the courtroom. His trial was severed from the Chicago Eight on November 5, 1969.
