Baltimore six-piece silver tea service, ca. 1848, by S. Kirk & Son in a repousse castle pattern to include teapot, 13" h., approx. 41.4 oz. total wt., coffee pot, 7 3/4" h., 10 1/4" w., approx. 39.1 oz. total wt., cream 8 1/2" h., approx. 11 oz. total wt., covered wastebowl, and sugar bowl, 6 1/8" h., 6 1/2" dia., approx.16.5 oz. total wt., with tongs, 5" l., approx. 2.6 oz. total wt. According to family tradition and a letter from Samuel Kirk & Son dated 1950, this 6-pc. set was ordered by Senator George Hunt Pendleton(1825-1889) in 1848. However, the present coffee pot appears to have been made before the rest of the set and bears the touch of Samuel Kirk himself and was possibly made for Pendleton's father-in-law, Francis Scott Key.
