American cherry and mahogany piecrust candlestand, ca. 1775, with a tilting top, baluster turned standard, and tripod base with pad feet, 24 1/2" h., 19" w. Sold by order of the trustees of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to benefit acquisition funds.
Probably from the Mid Atlantic region. Older (early 20th c.) refinish. One board top. Batons rotated. A few repaired breaks to rim. Birdcage is cherry, everything else is mahogany.
