Allen Russell Saalburg (American 1899-1987), oil on canvas laid on aluminum mural for the Pennsylvania railroad depicting a head-on view of steam locomotive #134 the Tiger, flanked by a variant of the Illinois State seal and a variant of the New York State seal, with a banner below inscribed PRR Fast Passenger Locomotive - Tiger PRR, signed lower right, 40'' x 61''. These panels were commissioned by industrial designer Raymond Loewy in 1938 and hung inside Loewy's elegant train cars.
Oil on wood. Veneer laid on canvas laid on aluminum. Surface dirt. Sporadic abrasions/scratches. 5" tear/peal left edge.
